throughout history, in myriad forms, communication with and about ‘the sacred’ has always been enacted through written texts, ritual gestures, images and icons, architecture, music, incense, special garments, saintly relics and other objects of veneration, markings upon flesh, wagging tongues and other body parts. it is only through such media that it is at all possible to proclaim one’s faith, mark one’s affiliation, receive spiritual gifts, or participate in any of the countless local idioms for making the sacred present to mind and body. in other words, religion always encompasses techniques and technologies that we think of as ‘media’, just as, by the same token, every medium necessarily participates in the realm of the transcendent, if nothing else than by its inability to be fully subject to the instrumental intentions of its users. jeremy stolow ~ religion and/as media

while star dreamer is the first luffa film, you sort of can't blame him is the first fully layered, finished luffa project. what started as a simple video mocking our celebrity-centric, techno-infused, capital-worshiping culture (focusing on one of the easiest targets, elon musk),has turned into a "group version" that screened to an actual audience. an auction item at a gallery. and an advertisement that is at least 2x longer than the short film itself. wild how some lost hours and some stolen media can really make its rounds.
